A little more about us…

2 River Road, Cape Neddick Maine Was built in 1780 and once was the very center of a bustling and prosperous community. With a very active shipping port on the Cape Neddick River, goods and services were sold and bartered in the town center now located on the corner of River Road and US1.

In April 2013, neighbors at 97 River Road, Ken Baublitz & Joe Knapp, decided that Hoyt’s Cottages needed to be saved and restored to it former charm, so a new chapter of 2 River Road began. Everything was upgraded to bring the cottages to modern day. This includes air-conditioning, heat, brand new showers, kitchens, beds, linens, lamps, rugs and of course TV’s. Every effort was made to create a comfortable, cozy and relaxed atmosphere while preserving the Charm of the 91 year old original wood structures and 235 year old Inn. The also decided to make some of the cottages dog friendly.

By May of 2014 the NEW 2 River Road Inn & Cottages was open for business. After many successful seasons, 2 River Road has become the “crown jewel” of Cape Neddick, with its 15 renovated cottages and three luxurious historic suites in the Inn House. In the fall of 2017, Tracey Dewhurst purchased the property and with even more upgrades, has decided to open the Inn year round, offering continental breakfast daily and many great seasonal packages.  Along with her Innkeepers/ General Managers, Nora and Phyllis Hamilton, she will be continuing to offer the same great hospitality and peaceful atmosphere for which the property has become known.

Located on over 2.5 acres, there are dozens of gardens in every corner with thousands of flowers during spring, summer and fall. Guests can choose to stay on the property and enjoy their private covered porches with relaxing rocking chairs, gather in the 20 x 40 gazebo, or take a swim in the pool. Leaving the property is easy thanks to our convenient location midway between the towns of York and Ogunquit. Just a short stroll down River Road lies the first of many beaches, the Cape Neddick Beach. At the mouth of the river, the perfectly protected cove beach has a spectacular view of the Nubble Lighthouse. Just another mile to the south you will find yourself in charming York Beach. Take a step back in time with its 120 year old diner pulling taffy in its windows, the boardwalk, beach, game rooms, amusement park and Maine’s largest zoo. There are dozens of restaurants and shops that line the streets leading up to the world famous Nubble Lighthouse. Just 3 miles north along the coastal shore road brings you into Perkins Cove and the Town of Ogunquit. Perkins Cove’s lobster boats, fishing boats and sailboats are a feast for the senses.

The marginal way will lead you to Ogunquit with its world famous beaches and longest running Summer theatre, the Oqunguit Playhouse. Stay for dinner and experience some of Maine’s top restaurants, shops and entertainment.

2 River Road is conveniently located to allow you to unpack once and explore Maine with a multitude of day trips. Or if you are so inclined, stay put, do nothing and enjoy the amazing summer weather, beach, and food. Recharge your batteries and discover why the State mottos are “Maine, the way life should be”  and “Worth a visit…Worth a lifetime.”
